Job Description

Slop unit - Senior Operator

To work initially Onshore then unit will be going offshore with slop treatment equipment.

The role controls monitoring fluids testing and operation of the slop treatment equipment. Monitoring storage and slop generation offshore and assisting the Lab Technician with sampling and analyses when required. Ensuring that all slop machinery/ equipment is properly maintained, and operators are trained correctly in its use. All work shall be carried out to a high standard with regards to Company quality, safety and environmental standards. To ensure that an efficient slop control operation is maintained, and accurate information is recorded and retained for inspection by external bodies. To identify and undertake training as required


Centrifuge/DAF Unit/Fluids Management:

Ensure that daily/weekly/monthly checks on equipment and storage tanks are performed. Supervise/operate slop treatment plant and all associated equipment ensuring that operational instructions and procedures are followed. Ensure that detailed checks are carried out and that appropriate paperwork for the reporting of raw materials and processed products is maintained. Ensure that tank balances are recorded accurately. Ensure discharge volumes and recording of chemical usage is carried out accurately. Responsible for quality check of overboard discharges.


Responsible for training and competency of Slops Team. Attend management and safety meetings. Supervise slops team. Review and update and add necessary documents on Quality Management System. Provide cover for the DWM Team as and when required.

Laboratory Checks:

Assist with daily site lab checks and recording results. Assist with carrying out lab basic analyses when required.

Offshore SIMOPS:

Operate any equipment required for DWM Control. Inspect and identify faults on any vehicle and record in daily checklist. General assistance with any operations where required or requested by SLE.


Follow all company and BIES discharge water procedures. Ensure all Environmentally Critical Items within the area are adequately maintained and registered. Address any concerns and taking appropriate actions in conjunction with company’s procedures.

Material Handling:

Assist in DWM operations. Ensure that samples are obtained for lab analysis. Ensure that received treatment chemicals are stored correctly. Follow COSHH assessment.

Desired Qualities / Qualifications

HNC or Equivalent

Confined Space Entry

Supervisory/people management experience

Working within slops/drilling waste/solids control

Perform maintenance checks and fill out appropriate forms

Production experience

Commercial Understanding

Ability to work well with staff at all levels

Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of Centrifuges, DAF units and associated equipment

Basic chemical knowledge of oil-based materials / wastes

Safety and environmental awareness

Effective team leader

Ability to work to a high standard


Work within the oil & gas/ energy industry

Competent in working to defined systems of work
