Job Description

What you’ll be doing:

A leading role to ensure consistency in process, software use and management of the estimating service and resources across all contracts/clients. In addition, this role manages the estimating application (including the quality of any spreadsheets and templates used as part of the estimating function), regularly audits to check its appropriate use and ensures its optimum deployment. This role also develops, maintains and manages the procedures/processes and work instructions for and output from estimating requirements across contracts, clients and business functions. This is a working role and a significant proportion of time will be required to provide hands-on estimating activity and support across all contracts/clients as required. All Estimators report into the Lead Estimator and the role reports to the Project Controls Manager. This role will be expected to undertake personnel management through the setting of objectives, completing appraisals (targets & objectives for which will be set jointly in conjunction with Contract Manager / Project Manager) and actively support in the development of the team and individual members. This role will also support the hiring process, disciplinaries, manage holiday approvals, sickness notifications and resource cover.

You will be accountable for:

Client: Customer satisfaction, with respect to the execution of the processes, estimating practice and behaviours of the companies Estimator(s) on the contract and customer relationship management with respect to the estimating service.Management: Feedback of issues and initiatives to the Project Controls Manager and sharing information with the rest of the Project Controls Function. Service Provision: Effective delivery and documentation of the appropriate processes, management of service and running cross contract estimating and reporting processes. Leadership: Team support and building, coaching and mentoring, input to and facilitation of team appraisals, ensuring team work to appropriate processes and communication of business and general information to team.

You will be responsible for:

This role will attend cost, estimating and scope review meetings across all contracts (not every meeting, but a selection) to ensure quality and effectiveness is maintained. The role will also stand in when necessary for other Estimators, as required. It will regularly audit estimates, quotations, BoE, reports and deliverables to ensure consistency of application use. It will own and update the procedures and work instructions. It is responsible for the selection and appointment/removal of Estimators and their development, as required. (The Project Controls Manager is accountable). It is responsible for defining, running and managing all cross contract/client estimating processes. It is responsible for the optimal use of process and tools and the continual improvement of the estimating service. It is responsible for interfacing with the Cost and Planning Leads to ensure alignment of process, deliverables and systems where appropriate. It is also responsible for defining the reporting standards and templates of the Estimating Function. Where client specific deviations are agreed by the Contract Manager, it will be responsible for documenting said deviations and ensuring compliance. This role will own a continuous business improvement plan in conjunction with the respective project control functions. It will also represent the estimating function on the Slingshot Steering Committee for digital developments and improvements.

What we need from you

Perm position
Full-time – 37.5hrs/pw
Location – Aberdeen across all facilities

Desired Qualities / Qualifications

Team leading abilities with at least 3 years track record
Cost estimating experience of a minimum 5 years in senior role
Experience within EPC / Projects environment desirable
Demonstrable expert knowledge and application of estimating industry standards
HNC or higher qualifications preferred
Excel Expert
Experience with other estimation packages
Organising, chairing meetings and presentation skills critical
Business planning / commercial awareness
Facilitation experience desirable
Procedure and work instruction writing experience desirable
