Craig Group looks to the future

The fourth generation family business says it is now focused on growing its global oilfield procurement company, Craig International, and its golf retail outlet and driving range, King’s Links.

Chairman, Douglas Craig, said the Craig Group hopes to capitalise on the global opportunities for Craig International through further investment.

A £100million turnover business the firm has a major share of the oilfield procurement market in the North Sea but with bases in Aberdeen, Cape Town, Calgary, Doha, Dubai, Hamburg and Houston, international sales now accounts for 60% of its revenue.

Mr Craig said: “Craig International has capitalised on the need for greater efficiency and cost-reduction in the lower oil price environment through its market-leading electronic processes and innovations. It is making great strides internationally, as a result, and we will be investing in expanding its global presence and reach.”

Closer to home at King’s Links, the Craig family’s passion for golf has resulted in one of the largest golf retail outlets in Scotland and the biggest driving range in the region.

He added: “We will also invest in King’s Links, building upon its success and working, particularly with young people, to make golf more accessible and to develop new golfing talent in the North-east.”

Mr Craig also said the Craig Group will seek new entrepreneurial opportunities which could include a new portfolio of businesses. “We’ll stick to what we know in marine and oilfield services,”

Mr Craig said. “But we’re open to exploring ideas that we did not have the capacity to do so before. As well as driving entrepreneurial growth at Craig Group, I’ve also been its custodian with the responsibility of ensuring the most robust and sustainable business for the next generation. Our children, Samantha and Steven, are part of the business and, one day my youngest, Andrew, will join them in taking over the reins.”
